Finalisation of the Energy label for TVs
Finalisation of the Energy label for televisions
The European Commission has circulated revised drafts for the energy labelling of televisions. This A to G label, highlighting the energy efficiency of TV models sold in Europe, will appear in shops one year after adoption of the measure (meaning mid-2011).
According to expertise gathered by Environmental NGOs, the proposed energy label scale is not stringent enough. In order to take into account recent technological improvements and avoid introducing too quickly confusing A+, A++ and A+++ classes, the scale should be made tougher.

Revised energy labels for domestic fridges and freezers are also in the pipeline, which will add an A+++ class on top of the existing A+ and A++ classes. This decision, deriving from a political compromise on the EU Energy Label two months ago, has been opposed by Environmental and consumer groups.
New Consultation Forum meeting on 26 March
A consultation meeting will take place in Brussels on 26 March to discuss pending regulations for domestic washing machines and dishwashers, as well as for industrial and ventilation fans.
The Ecodesign rules (and revised Energy labels for the first two) had already been discussed in 2009, but needed further refining before going to vote by Member States. Revised drafts have been circulated.
