Studies to revise the Ecodesign Directive, its methodology and scope

How to navigate

The usual process for an Ecodesign or Energy label regulation starts with the preparatory study (12 to 18 months), which inspires the European Commission to draft a working document.
These are discussed in a Consultation Forum.
Then a social and economic Impact Assessment study is performed on the finalised draft measure.
The 27 Member States vote on the Ecodesign measure in a Regulatory Committee.
Then the EU Parliament and Council have a right of scrutiny to accept or oppose the regulation.

The middle column of this page provides a quick overview of the status for the different product groups and allows access to the most relevant documents.

The left menu provides access to 4 sections:
- Preparatory studies: these pages provide all the draft or final chapters of the  studies. NGOs send technical experts to monitor some of them.
- Draft and adopted measures: this is where you may find all the working documents and drafts from the European Commission.
Positions from Environmental NGOs: the comments and positions we defend during consultation stages. They cover the different product groups.
Working Plan: information about the list of products to be covered by the Ecodesign policy.
